Since it had been 3 years since my whole family got together, we decided it was about time. The only problem was where will all 6 adults and 6 kids fit? The very first idea was at parent's house, but we then quickly realized that there just was not enough room, wasn't very kid friendly, and I would be 6+ months pregnant and not in much mood to drive 12 hours. Eric and Abby were just too far away for all of us to go and they live in a house even smaller than Mom and Dad's. We thought about renting some house somewhere, but that was just too expensive for the amount of time we wanted to all be together. Last option? Our house. Yep, we somehow managed to squeeze in 6 adults and 6 kids into our small 1100sqft townhouse. My parents were nice enough to come a few days early to help move some furniture out, set up bunk beds, and make the house a little more spacious for that many people. Thankfully the Bunkers', who were also out of town, were willing to let my parents use their house as a place to sleep, giving us just that much more needed space. I was really nervous about how that many people would do in my house for 2 weeks, but we really had a great time. There were a few times that we had to separate girls from each other, or send them outside at times the weather was nice, or count to 10 while we cleaned up a few messes. So other then the typical kids messes, we enjoyed ourselves.
We were able to take the kids to see Santa, do some Christmas shopping, play games, do crafts, have a fun girls day out, where we went to Greenwood to shop and have a yummy lunch at Paradise, the guys went to see Tron, and we even set up a fun Tea Party, where the Soelberg girls came along. We all dressed up, Mom read, "Tea for Ruby", talked about the proper etiquette to a tea party, and we ate some yummy food, and drank some tea and hot cocoa. I think everyone had a good time.
Other than the fun holiday traditions on Christmas and New Year's, we were also able to go up to the Indianapolis Children's Museum. That place was awesome! We spent all day, and probably could have done many hours more of exploring only a fraction of what that place has to offer. What a fun treat it was. Thanks Soelberg's for showing us around.
All in all it was a great trip. We were sad to see everyone go at the end. We were even more bummed that Eric and Abby live so far away and only pray that the day will come when all of us will be closer together. I was once again so grateful for Mom and Dad for staying a few days after to help us put the house back together. Being so pregnant and tyring to clean up a whole house after that many people would have been a challenge. Now it better not be another 3 years before we all get together again.!
