Germany- Day 5 and 6

Day 5- Sunday, June 10th

Since it was Sunday it was a bit of a slower day. We were able to attend church with Oma at the Heidelberg Military Ward. That was one of the ward's I use to attend before we went to the Mannheim Military Ward, which due to the draw down of the military, is now combined with the Heidelberg Ward anyway. We did meet in  the "new" building, well it is built after I left 8 years ago, but it was nice. Naturally so many things are different now with regards to the military but even then, I was still able to see a few old familiar faces, helping it feel a little like home.
After church we all went back to the apartment to give the kids a real nap and prepare for a delicious dinner. Between Oma, Mom, and I we were able to make schnitzel, gravy, dumplings, cauliflower with a white sauce, a green salad, and strawberry cake for dessert. This was one of my all time favorite meals made by Oma and it meant the world to me to be able to do again with her.

Priceless

Somehow we managed to make all this food in this tiny kitchen.

Yum-o!

All in all it was a terrific Sunday.

Day 6- Monday, June 11th

We decided to take things a little slower today, since it had been so crazy the week before. We got up later, walked over to get my brotchen for breakfast again, got ready for the day and met up with Dad. We then headed out to our old house in Ketsch. This was the last house we lived in before we moved back to the States and it was also the house we lived in the longest, we lived in 3 others before this one. While there were a lot of things that looked the same there were tons of things that looked different. But it was still fun to reminisce anyway.

The old house, Goethestrasse 46. My room was the top right window.  There use to be a huge tree in front of it, which in the summer allowed for a couple very large spiders to attempt to make my room home. Ugh

Our backyard. When we lived here there was no shed, trampoline, or swing set.  My SIL actually threw her bridal bouquet off that balcony.

There use to be 3 really large trees here, but apparently the neighbors on the back didn't liked how they blocked the sun, so our landlord ended up removing them. We still wonder if he dug up our guinea pig and bunny that we buried back there.

This use to be my bus stop. It was down the street and around the corner.
After driving around looking at a few places we ended up at a grocery store where I was able to buy Kinder Eggs. These are the best. They are delicious chocolate eggs that have a toy inside. Apparently customs laws changed and we are no longer able to bring any back to the States, bummer. So that meant we just ate as many as we could while we were there. After having some lunch, we went back to downtown Heidelberg to meet up with Mom, Gisela and Peter, her sister and brother. By the end of all that we decided to call it a day and go back home.
